The ideal time for a newborn shoot is the first 10 days of their life, when they sleep longer.

But notice the word 'ideal'.

10 days isn't a rule!

Life gets in the way, people are busy, illness can strike, there are so many reasons that you might not be able to do your shoot in those first 10 days, and thats okay.

Your baby will always be your baby, and we can capture that at any age.

I recommend booking your newborn shoot for when your baby is between 5 and 7 days old.

You've got a lot going on with your new babies arrival, so let me help make it easier by sharing how to prepare for your newborn shoot!

The best thing you can do, is change & feed your baby right before the shoot. Most babies will then sleep the majority of the shoot, with the odd feed, nappy change and sometimes a cry & a cuddle.

Life is very hard when you're a week old...

I've said it before and i'll say it again, KEEP IT SIMPLE!

That means: no fancy dress, no bows bigger than heads, just a plain & simple white or light bodysuit.

We want those chunky baby thighs that everyone loves on show.

No socks, no shoes, just a bodysuit.

Yes, simple is best, but if you have a sentimental item, whether it's a teddy bear or a hand-knitted blanket, we can definitely incorporate it into your shoot.

don't forget about yourself

I know you've booked a newborn shoot, but you'll also be in the photos!

You'll receive photos of yourself with your newborn as part of the shoot.

I find neutral colours work best, avoiding clothing with patterns or logos.

Personal favourite: blue jeans & a plain white top.

At the end of the day, no-one can predict how your newborn will behave during their shoot. But have faith in me, and know that we have time. There's no need to stress, so relax & ENJOY those precious moments while they're small!
